STIRLING CURLING CLUB
PRESIDENT's 2023 LETTER
Hi curlers,
Our season is drawing to a close, and it has been a super year of curling.
Year end banquet, April 15: By now you should have heard about our year-end celebration banquet. But in case you missed it, you can get your tickets by clicking here. You can invite family and friends; it’s not just for curlers.
Are you an entrepreneur? Here’s a way to make some extra money. We get a grant to host Wednesday morning curling, with a free lunch afterwards. We need someone to prepare and serve the meal, and clean up afterwards. You get $450 for each meal, but you use that money to buy food and any other supplies you need to feed 32 people. You get full use of the Curling Club kitchen, or you can cook it ahead at home. The expectation is a hearty and nutritious meal, not Kraft Dinner and Jell-o. The money which is left over is your profit. Nancy Foley has done this for the past few years, and she is willing to share her menu ideas with you. You can contact her for more info: 613-651-7967, This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..
To apply for the job of Wednesday lunch cook, please send an email to Bruce Fraser: This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.. Describe any experience cooking for large groups, and why you are the perfect person for this job. Deadline to apply: May 1.
Win free curling membership for a year! This is a promotion to encourage you to become certified with Smart Serve, so you can run the bar. Dayton, our Bar Convenor, needs people to help with the bar and most Smart Serve certificates expire in July 2023. It is now a five year certificate. All persons who renew or obtain their certificate by mid September will be put into a draw and the winner will have their 2023/24 Curling Membership Fees waived. This information is posted on our website: www.StirlingCurlingClub.ca/SmartServe and is also posted at the Club.
This thing needs to be fixed! There are a couple of signs with that title posted: one on the bulletin board, and one near the bar. The idea is that if you see something that’s not working or is broken, we need to know about it. Thanks for your help with this.
Carpet Bowling: Look on the bulletin board. There are four dates in May for carpet/lawn bowling, two here at our club, and two in Campbellford. This sport is similar to curling, in that the ball curls at the end of rolling. Very interesting! Depending on the interest of participants, we may offer carpet bowling through the summer. If you would like to be the coordinator for this, wonderful!
Handbags for Hospice: Wednesday, May 10: This will be one of your last opportunities to work your volunteer hours this year. “Work”? You call this “work”? This is a blast to be part of! Look for the sign up sheets on the bulletin board.
Thank-you! Speaking of volunteers, a huge thank-you to all of you who contributed your time and energy to make Stirling Curling Club the great place it is! We simply would not be able to provide the service we do without your effort. It takes teamwork to make the dream work.
Thanks to the Board members for all the work you do. Most of it is behind the scenes; no one even knows all that you do. You’re not doing it for recognition and honours; you do it with the heart of serving, which is wonderful.
Thanks to Rick, our Ice Maker and Kelly, our behind the scene co-ordinators who so so much and much more. You’re the best.
Good curling,
Bruce Fraser
